Simply Silver Sunday Photo Challenge

(SOOC shot of my grandson)

Happy New Year!
I’ve decided to “leap” into this year by starting a Photo Challenge! It’s called Simply Silver Sunday. It’s the day to sit back and relax. Find a photo that you didn’t get to share and post it here! There will be specific themes from time to time...
Rules
1. The picture was taken by you.
2. The picture has been taken during the past year and never been posted. You may post it to additional current or future challenges.
3. Link up using the link to your individual blog post and not your main blog address.
4. Please include the Simply Silver button (below) in your post to link back to my site.
5. Leave feedback for a few other participants. We all love feedback!
6. By linking up, you are okay with me re-posting your photo here if you are chosen for the top three.

Free Taste of Home Recipe App for iPhone/iPad

I have always liked Taste of Home magazine. This little app created by them has several collections of recipes. Even though it doesn't have a lot of additional functions, it's nice to have it in my iPad Cookbook collection. For some reason, I'm really craving Turtle Praline Tart...

Cropped Version

When I first viewed this photo, I thought it wasn't a keeper... With the help of the cropping tool...magic. I'm so glad I didn't toss it back...

Ipad App- Snapseed

Quick Review

I love this app! Snapseed is a must have on the iPad. It's very user friendly and a lot of fun. The downside is that I can never make up my mind on selecting the final edit. The screen shot shows the original pic.
The cost of this app is $4.99. Skip that next trip to Starbucks and treat yourself to something that will last...

Adventure #5 Legoland

I experienced Adventure #5 of my Fifty-Two Adventures at Legoland in Florida. Their "specialty" food is apple fries. Since it was an adventure, I had to try them... To be honest, I enjoyed the whipped cream dipping fluff more than the fries...

Photoshop Elements 10 Tutorial- Creating a Monthly Calendar for Your Blog

I'm a Newbie at using Photoshop Elements 10. I believe you learn by doing and sharing; therefore, I've created a tutorial on how to make a cute little calendar to go on the sidebar of your blog or desktop. If you look to the top right sidebar, you'll see what I mean. I'm thinking the cute little grandson is making the calendar cute... I have probably broken every Elements good user rule... here goes...

Easy Calendar Creator with Elements 10

Materials
Elements 10
Calendar Template

  1. Do a Google search to find a calendar template
  2. Select one
  3. Click print- When the window opens look for the pdf box in the lower left corner.
  4. Open this box and save as a pdf file. Remember where you saved it. Do not print.
  5. Open PSE 10
  6. Select New Blank- make it 10 x 7.5 inches
  7. Click File>Place and select the calendar that you saved as a pdf.
  8. Size and place, as desired. Click green check when finished.
  9. Click File>Place and select a photo
  10. Adjust to fit. I left a small border to serve as a frame. Click the green check when finished.
  11. Change the opacity (lower) of the photo layer. Watch the calendar appear.  Set to your liking.
  12. Flatten the layer
  13. Save as a jpg
Note- You may have to erase unwanted parts of the calendar layer.

If you try this tutorial, I would love to see it! I've provided a Linky...

Ipad App- Photogene...A Photo Editing App

PHOTOGENE

I'm always looking for the perfect iPad App.  There are many that come very close to being my favorite. Photogene is one of them. It's a photo editing app with many great features. It has several presets and a nice Collage Maker. I created this collage in a matter of seconds. This little program is great for when you're traveling and don't have access to Photoshop Elements, etc. For $2.99, it's a steal. An additional set of collage layouts costs $1.99.

Word Cloud with Photoshop Elements Tutorial

My copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements Techniques magazine arrived the other day! The article on using a word cloud caught my eye!  I used this info to create an easy tutorial on this technique. If you need additional help, it's in the Jan/Feb. 2012 issue. Side note- It's a great mag and website!

Adding a Word Cloud to Your Photo

Materials
Photoshop Elements 10
Word Art Program (free)- Wordle

Directions
1. Visit Wordle and create a word cloud

Save by hitting the print key. Select Save as pdf file

2. Open the pdf  file in Elements

3. If not transparent, select the magic wand tool (w)
Next, make sure the contiguous option is not checked.
Then, click once on the background
Finally, press the delete key.
You now have a transparent layer.

4. Press Control T (mac- command T)
This command creates a free form bounding box.
Size and move, as needed.

5. Save as a png to preserve transparency

That's it! I'm a newbie and was able to do it on the first attempt!

If you try this tutorial, I hope you share it!! I've provided a Linky...

Project 366 Rewind Challenge

Project 366 Rewind Challenge begins this week. The prompt is "New Beginnings..." This photo was taken earlier this week at Cypress Gardens in Florida. The pathway leads to a park bench where I can sit and watch the world go by... or should I continue on into the jungle...?

Photo Challenges

I have passed the family tradition of making Christmas cookies to my daughter and her family. While they rolled and cut, I snapped pics. I'm linking to three challenges:
